WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT: Birds to be benched on Friday after 6pm. Judging commences on Saturday after 9am. Open to the public Saturday 2-6pm, and Sunday 10am-3pm. Admission €3. Results sheet €1. On Sunday there will be trade stands selling seed, equipment and birds. Plenty of parking.

What's on: National British Bird & Mule Club open show

WHEN: Sunday, February 5, 2012.

WHERE: TA Centre, Cobridge, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffs ST6 3HJ.

WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT: The Norwich Plainhead Club show will be held in conjunction with the National British Bird & Mule Club open show. Birds can be entered Saturday evening, and Sunday morning from 7-9am. Judging commences at 9am. Open to the public 1-4pm. Admission £3. There will be a bird sale and trade stands selling equipment. Plenty of parking.

What's on: Slimbridge Festival of Birds

WHEN: Saturday & Sunday, February 4-5, 2012.

WHERE: Slimbridge Wetland Centre, WWT Slimbridge Wetland Centre, Slimbridge, Glos GL2 7BT.

WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT: A weekend celebrating birdwatching in all its glory, with special walks, talks and events all included in the admission price (see website for price list). TV bird expert Simon King will re-open the renovated Zeiss Hide, and visitors can take part in the great waterbird challenge with expert warden Martin McGill. There will be stalls selling birdwatching equipment and gifts. Open from 9.30am-5pm.

Birds to be benched between 7-9am for judging to start at 9.30am. Open to the public at 1.30am and admission is £2. Budgerigar man and artist Roy Aplin will be present, with other trade stands. Free parking.

WHEN: Saturday and Sunday, January 21-22, 2012.

WHERE: Kingswood Community Centre, Kingswood, Dublin 24.

WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT: Birds to be benched on Friday between 7-10pm. Judging commences Saturday 9am. Open to the public Saturday from 3pm, and Sunday 10am-3pm. Admission €5 (£4 approx) and includes a catalogue, children €2 (£1.50 approx). There will be a raffle and trade stands on the Sunday. Free parking.

What's on: Southern Native Bird Breeders Society open show

WHEN: Saturday and Sunday, January 14-15, 2012.

WHERE: Scoil Mhuire Fatima Primary School, North Monastery Road, Cork City.

WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT: The show celebrates its 25th anniversary and every exhibitor will get a 25th anniversary commemorative diploma as a souvenir. Birds to be benched on Friday 13 from 7-10pm. Judging commences on Saturday at 9am. Open to the public on Saturday at 4pm, and Sunday from 10am-1.30pm. Entrance free is €5 and includes a result sheet. Trader stands and refreshments available. Free parking.

WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT: Birds can be booked in from 5pm on January 7, and 7-8.30am on January 8. The  judging starts at 9am. Lifting time is 4pm. Trade stands open at 10am and the show is open to public at 1pm.

What's on: Atherstone CBS radius show

WHEN: Sunday, December 18, 2011.

WHERE: Mancetter Scout Hut, near Atherstone, Warwickshire CV9 1NP.

WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT: This is the club's second show of the year to encourage fanciers to enter their birds and enjoy the day. Entry is 50p per bird, entries accepted from 9.30am. The general public are welcome after 12 noon. Free admission. Refreshments will be available. Free parking at the venue.
