Fife FF: Let's make 2011 a National to remember

Exhibition time: FFF secretary Chris Smith shows one of his variegated buff cock birds. 'He didn't win me much last year, but still went on to garner 90 points at the 2010 World Show in Tours, France,' says Mr Smith Fife fanciers are being urged to show at the National Fife Fancy Canary Show at the upcoming National Exhibition 2011 in Stafford on October 9, following last year’s successful joint staging.

Chris Smith, secretary of the Fife Fancy Federation (FFF), said: “Last year was the first year we staged our national show at the Parrot Society show and it was excellent. It had the feel of the old National – we met a lot of old friends. So we’d like the Fife fancy to come out in force and support our national show.

“The National Exhibition is growing year on year; it attracts a lot of people and loads of trade stands. It’s in the interests of the Fife fancy, the Parrot Society and the wider fancy in general to get behind the show,” he continued.

Mr Smith said he imagined a Fife entry this year of between 800 and 1,000, following last year’s entry of 650. He said: “We’ve got coaches coming from Scotland and lots of folks coming from Wales.

“We’ve put in some good publicity work and got a great response from putting it on Facebook, so it’s paid off. Everyone that went last year loved it. The feedback from the 25 Fife clubs that make up the federation was excellent.”

In addition, Mr Smith commended the work and attitude of the Parrot Society organisers. He said: “We have to give them a lot of credit for taking the initiative to organise and develop the show and for bearing the costs of the venue.

“All we have to do is turn up and put on a show. All the clubs pull their weight by helping set up and dismantle everything. It works very well.”
